Who we are

We are a group of haematologists (blood disorder specialists) and respiratory specialists with an interest in venous thrombosis (clotting in the veins). We set up this clinic in 2018 and now see over 800 new patients per year with thrombotic conditions.

If you have had a DVT or PE or Venous Thrombosis and would like to see a specialist to discuss issues such as causes, appropriate treatment, family risks, and prevention of future clots, ask your GP for a referral to see us.

If you have a new diagnosis of DVT or PE- you will need to continue your blood thinner until your review with us.

Decisions regarding duration of treatment will be discussed at your appointment.

What We do

The management of thrombosis is changing, with significant updates to clinical guidelines in the last few years. The advent of the direct oral anticoagulants (apixaban, rivaroxaban, and dabigatran) has further changed practice. We will review the cause of the clot, the appropriate duration of treatment, and any further risk assessment such as thrombophilia screening.

Starting anticoagulants

We don’t have any preference or general recommendations for choice of anticoagulants. Local health district policies provide appropriate guidance. Factors to consider include renal function, liver function, and concomitant medications.

Referrals

All patients must have a valid referral. Medicare rules require this to have all four of:

  1. The name of one of our doctors (e.g. Dr Prasad et al)

  2. A referring doctor’s name

  3. Their provider number

  4. Their signature

ED/hospital JMO referrals are accepted as long as that doctor has included their valid provider number.

Please fax the referral to 02 9190 5381- we will contact the patient with an appointment.
